乔（尼克·罗宾逊 Nick Robinson 饰）的母亲在他很小的时候就离开了他，现如今，他和父亲弗兰克（尼克·奥弗曼 Nick Offerman 饰）过着相依为命的日子。弗兰克是一个非常独断专行的男人，控制欲极强的他无时不刻的想要控制乔生活里的方方面面。和乔境遇相同的还有帕特里克（加布里埃尔·巴索 Gabriel Basso 饰），他也因为家人们的过度关注而感到窒息。
一天夜里，乔和好友比阿基奥（莫伊塞斯·阿里亚斯 Moises Arias 饰）意外发现了一处人迹罕至的森林，和帕特里克一起，感受到了大自然召唤的孩子们决定离家出走，在这片森林里建立他们的乌托邦，这段牢不可破的友谊在一位名叫凯利（艾琳·莫里亚蒂 Erin Moriarty 饰）的女生介入之后，发生了微妙的变化。

好看就好看在至真至纯，故事有些异想天开，但和影片主题和人物的契合点很高，而电影最有力的优点是人物的塑造竟被这几个孩子展现得栩栩如生。男主角小正太阳光帅气又颓废迷离。而青春做的这些荒唐事，在必要的戏剧张力前都那么引人共鸣。一头一尾的鼓点配乐真是神来之笔。
